Peyton Collum, MA, LPC
EMDR-Trained - IFS-Trained - TBRI - Attachment-Based
I specialize in depth-oriented therapy combining IFS+EMDR to help adults who are struggling with trauma, difficult family dynamics growing up, attachment, and relationship issues to stop second guessing themselves and experience self-trust that leads to a more fulfilled and healthy life.
You figured out early how to guide yourself through this world. Reading the room, holding it together, managing yourself so things didn't fall apart around you. You're really good at it too… but exhausted. Underneath all that competence is someone who has been carrying a lot, for a long time, and who is quietly wondering how much longer they can keep it up. You know something needs to change but with every attempt, it’s the same outcome even though you did it differently this time.
Even in your closest relationship you’re not sure if the feelings are mutual, you find “bad relational traits” you carry, and wonder who the problem is. There’s a familiar pull toward people who can't quite meet your needs, or a pattern of giving more than you receive. When relationships feel fragile, you tend to shrink, disappear, or brace yourself without meaning to. You've probably noticed it, read the books, done the research and made changes that felt better and still ended up in the same place as before or that other family members ended up in. That can feel so confusing and disorienting, to understand yourself and still feel stuck. The past has a way of training our brains for what to anticipate in the present and to re-write the story with a different outcome, one where you are loveable, valuable and enough.
You are doing the best you can with what you have. And there is more available to you than just managing. The same ways your brain organized to protect you is also organized toward healing — it just needs the right conditions and experiences of someone safe showing up in a way your brain and body doesn’t expect. Healing doesn’t happen alone and based on how hard you try. It happens in relationship with a safe other, yourself, a higher power or your community.
I believe healing happens in the empathetic witness of another in a safe space both between people and in the room. Together we will get curious about what's been driving the patterns, process the experiences that are still buried alive in your nervous system, and build a new relationship with yourself that isn't organized around the past. Using IFS and EMDR alongside an attachment-based framework, we work with your whole system, not just your logic ;), because real change happens below the level of insight.
I am Peyton, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Addison, Texas, and I specialize in trauma, attachment, and relational healing for adults and teens. I work at a nonprofit supervising graduate students becoming therapists and families experiencing homelessness along with my private practice, because I believe this kind of healing should not be reserved for the few. I am IFS Level 1 trained and EMDR trained, and everything I do is grounded in relational neuroscience and a deep respect for the wisdom of your inner world.
You don't have to have it all figured out to begin. Come tired, come uncertain, come exactly as you are. If something in what you've read feels familiar, reach out for a free 15-minute consultation and let's find out if this is the right fit. You don't have to keep navigating this alone.
